What is a Private Membership Association?

A Private Membership Association (PMA) is a member-based organization operating within a private contractual framework.  It is structured around agreed-upon principles, governance rules, and internal membership standards.  Unlike public commercial entities, a PMA functions through private agreement among its members.  When properly designed, this structure provides clarity of purpose, defined authority, and sustainable internal governance.
